ONR-G Big Data Revolution

The Office of Naval Research Global, in conjunction with InnoCentive, hosted a workshop on the 12th of September 2012 that brought together high-level stakeholders to debate how organizations can open-up their big-data in the cloud and crowd-source solutions to their big-data challenges.
This interactive workshop explored how predictive analytics competitions could be applied to this field by the participating organisations. If you want to find out more about the workshop please see the link on the right.

Why Big Data?

Organisations today are acquiring new data at an unprecedented rate that could not even have been imagined 10 years ago. In very diverse ways, from customer loyalty programs to social media to healthcare imaging, more data is being collected than ever before and stored in various places, including 'the cloud'.
The growth of vast, unstructured amounts of data represents new challenges for academic institutions, government and industry alike. As the global digital data-world is forecast to grow exponentially, making sense of this unstructured data presents a great opportunity for both understanding and capitalising on this information.
